The Southwestern Advantage Internship is an incredibly rewarding, and incredibly challenging opportunity for college students and young adults. We consider it to be the most difficult college internship in America and therefore not a fit for everyone. However, thousands of students who wish to gain more independence, reach new levels of personal development, and attain valuable business and leadership experience find a great fit in our program every year.
Students have opportunities to:
- Build their resume by running their own business with the guidance of professional mentors and coaches
- Travel to other states and countries for work, business meetings, and incentive trips
- Develop communication skills by personally meeting with thousands of families from various socioeconomic backgrounds
- Gain college credit (if applicable at their university)
- Have an unlimited income potential by not being confined to an hourly pay rate
Students will face challenges such as:
- Long hours: our most successful students choose to work the most hours
- Rejection: our salespeople understand that hearing 'No' is a regular part of their job
- No hourly pay: running your own business means your pay is a reflection of your work ethic
- Away from home: students relocate as a campus to another state for 12-14 weeks to focus on growing their business away from the distractions of their home towns
The Southwestern Advantage looks at overcoming these challenges as the parts of our job that truly help our students build the character and skills that are needed in a successful life.
